Before you despair, make sure that your computer has sufficient memory and a working video card, which some versions of simple gambling games require. Open Task Manager and check whether your central processing unit (CPU) or random-access memory (RAM) have reached 100% capacity. If they have, something else may be draining resources in the background, so close any such applications.

Then check your Internet connection. Slow download/upload speeds will make a game laggy, even when it is a small download. See if your Internet speed fluctuates while you play.

Do I trust the publisher? Some “compact” games have sneakily included viruses and spyware. Scan it for malware.

Play the game on a different computer. Does it run well? Then the game is fine and it’s your computer that is at fault. Still jerky? The game is a lemon.

“See what you can find. ” They’re in good company.

First, ensure that you have a computer that meets the technical minimums for playing the game (even “casual” games require a certain amount of performance). Second, make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date (it’s amazing how often people forget this step). Next, make sure your internet connection is functioning properly (test your internet speed and restart your router). If all else fails, contact the game’s customer support with the information you’ve gathered (they’re likely familiar with the problem).
