Can anyone explain the rules of Texas Hold'em like I'm 5?

Explaining Texas Hold'em poker to someone who has never played poker. How do you describe Texas Hold'em poker to someone who has never played? Please, no complicated poker speak. Just, "here are the cards, here is how they rank, this is what your hand should look like, here's how you win, here's what a flush is" etc...

Hey, don’t worry! In Texas Hold’em, each player tries to form the best possible hand. First, each player gets two “hole” cards that no one else can see. Next, the dealer puts five cards on the table. These five cards are shared among all players - we call them community cards. Each player will try to make the best five-card hand combining his or her two hole cards with any of the five community cards. Here’s how I would explain Texas Hold’em to a 5-year-old:

1. Ties: If two players have hands with equal rank, the kicker determines the winner.

2. How You Win: You win by having the best hand. If you believe that you have it, you raise; if not, you fold.

3. Community Cards: Basically, they are like a shared pizza that everyone gets to take a piece from. They’re used in combination with your two cards to make the best possible hand.

OK, so here’s the thing: form the highest-ranking five-card hand you can with your two cards and the communal five, and if you have the strongest hand, you win the pot!

Let’s say you’re sitting at a table playing poker. You get two cards each. The dealer puts another five cards on the table. And everyone has to use three of those five cards and their two cards to form the best five-card hand possible.

Just as the player with the strongest hand wins at Go Fish, the player who holds the winning poker hand – for example, a flush (five cards of the same suit) – collects the chips from the pot.

If you’re nervous, you don’t even have to play. You just need to know that your objective is either to win, or to convince everyone else that you will. Duh!

So, it’s like you play with 2 cards only you know and 5 on the table everybody can see. You play the best hand by mixing your 2 cards plus the 5 on the table. Your aim is to have the best hand compared to other players. The strongest card is Ace then King, Queen, Jack, 10 and so on. When you get five cards in the same suit (spades, clubs, diamonds or hearts) we call this a flush. Don’t reveal your cards, bet wisely, and may the best hand win!

Hello! Well, in Texas Hold'em you get dealt two cards, face down and secretly, and then five more cards are turned over for everyone to see. You can use any combination of these seven cards to form the highest hand you can, which would be called a “flush” if all five were of the same suit. The winner of each round takes all the cards in the middle of the table. Just remember that the higher the cards in your hand, the better. If two players tie, they share the winnings.

Texas Hold'em is a cool card game, dude. It’s you and other players with two secret cards apiece, and five shared ones in the middle. First person to show a winning hand made of any two of their own and three of the shared cards is the winner. The highest card wins (Ace is king), except if you have a “flush” – five of the same suit (clubs, hearts, whatever) – you win.
