Should I use a higher or lower DPI for mobile casino game interactions?

Hi, In order to improve my mobile casino game UI interactions, I would like to know more about if it's better to use high or low DPI values for button clicks or touch controls. Anyone have any experience or advice? Thank you!

In mobile casino games, lower is better when it comes to DPI. Because why not? Larger buttons are great for multi-touch screens, particularly those being handled by one hand while on the move. A high DPI will cause buttons to feel crowded and be accidentally tapped – something that’s really frustrating when you’re in the middle of landing a royal flush.

But don’t go too small. Make sure that buttons still look good (the tap target size across different devices should be no less than 8-10mm). The player shouldn’t have to strain his eyes to push the correct button.

A second piece of advice: keep touch fatigue in mind. If there are many buttons that players must push frequently (spin, bet, menu, and so on), don’t make them too small or grouped too closely together. And ensure that the buttons don’t get in players’ way. After all, we don’t want players to be trying to operate the interface rather than playing the game.

Lower DPI (dots per inch) is generally preferable in mobile casino games because it improves touch sensitivity. This is important to consider given that players may be on the move or not particularly precise when touching the screen. Too high a DPI could lead to button elements appearing too close together or increase the chances of accidental tap-through. Make sure buttons remain clearly distinct and identifiable. Players will thank you for it.

But that doesn’t work on a phone: high DPI means smaller buttons and higher risk of mispressed buttons. Players want to feel like they are in control of their game – not accidentally clicking and losing money. High DPI is just finicky on phones, so lower DPI is preferable here.

Mobile casino games benefit from a lower DPI (higher pixel density). The buttons are easier to click as a result; less accidental clicks occur, which is important in games where even small errors have financial consequences. Don’t forget about image quality – you still want your game to look good, so find a reasonable compromise. And always test on multiple devices, to ensure that the experience remains comfortable for everyone. A lower DPI is better for all users – particularly casual gamers – because it reduces the frustration of a “fat fingered” approach. Go lower DPI here!

Reduce DPI for mobile casino games (try 1x or 1.5x) so elements are large enough to press easily. Higher DPI improves image quality, but at the cost of smaller targets, causing taps to miss their mark. Balance visual clarity with usability by testing with players, until gameplay is tactile without being too crowded.
