Does using a wired connection help with input lag in casino games?

Wouldn't connecting to the Internet via a cable rather than Wi-Fi cut down on ping times and be more obvious in games such as poker, where timing is crucial?

Yes, cables do reduce latency relative to a wireless router, at least in my experience with online poker. Since I’m no network engineer, I can’t tell you why that might be true for sure, other than that signals may get lost on their way from the router to the computer. It does seem that when playing online poker you get a much more reliable low-ping rate with Ethernet. Whether that makes enough difference to matter depends on how seriously you take online casino games that have timing elements.

Well, there is little doubt that Ethernet helps reduce latency, particularly in casino gaming. The cable delivers a more consistent connection than Wi-Fi, thereby offering potentially faster ping times. It could make a difference in a high-stakes game of poker, but other factors such as the casino’s server location and the quality of your computer will also play a role. That said, being wired is always better.
