Is there a way to get the casino game discussion mod working on Steam?

Can someone make it so that we can have a casino game discussion mod on steam? We’re running a wiki and forum for casino games at www.casinospy.com and would like to talk to people who play casino games on steam. Anyone ever tried this? How did it work out?

Oh yeah, I saw people do that once. It's called steam modding, and you have to create a group, and then have a forumblog in the group, and then put a link to the forumblog on your casino spy website.

For starters, I’d suggest a casual weekly check-in with your friends to catch up on newly released slot machines or other news from the casino world. Make it fun and informal. It shouldn’t be hard to do through Steam’s messaging tools – you don’t have to program anything.

Finally, based on my own experience, I’d say the most important thing is to be active – update your wiki every day and try to participate in the forums. You can share links between your wiki and the Steam forum to get more traffic going. And if Steam flags anything as inappropriate or wrong, don’t fret, just change it. After all, most other Steam forum members interested in casino games are also likely to be newbies!

Just try it and see where it leads. At worst, you will learn how not to do it and adapt accordingly. BTW: Best of luck with your wiki and forum - it seems that you are off to a good beginning!

You can develop a Steam mod for your casino forum, or contact a developer who has already created a mod that might be appropriate (or suitable for modification). Look at the Steam Community Workshop and the various Reddit forums to identify potential partners. Steam mods are very popular, and with some effort you should be able to link your forum and Steam. Make sure that your mod is in compliance with Steam’s policies.

I also don’t know about modding in casino games in particular. In general, mods tend to be made for AAA titles which still have an active development team behind them. I would recommend that you get in touch with Steam about your idea and perhaps find a developer who is willing to include community-made mods as part of their titles. There are independent games which support community-made mods, but I am not sure about any casino games. Have a look at “Casino Tycoon 2” (or something like it) and let us know how it goes. At least keep up the good work over on Casinospy and there may well be developers that notice what you have done. Good luck!
