Is VSync necessary for a smooth casino game experience?

do we have to care about VSync when playing casino game online? It's a question that comes up regularly with PC game developers and gamers. Does it make a difference when spinning the reels on a slots machine or dealing a hand of poker with an animated dealer?

VSync is less important for online casino gaming than it is for other PC games. After all, we’re not talking Call of Duty here. It won’t affect the animations, which are minimal compared to other games, and the frame rate will remain stable whether or not VSync is enabled. If you see any screen tearing, you can enable VSync, but you probably won’t notice much difference. If screen tearing isn’t a problem, leaving VSync disabled will reduce input lag (although that won’t be a big issue with card games). So go ahead and forget about VSync. In fact, forget about your graphics card altogether. Make sure you have a solid Internet connection and a browser that won’t crash just as you’re hitting streaks.

I’d also advise VSync off. That’s more about optimizing PC games than anything to do with playing casino games. Most modern computerized slot machines are played through browsers or apps, so the game doesn’t require the highest resolution or frame rate. Turn VSync on if you want, I promise that you’ll never know it was on. Instead, focus on getting faster internet speeds and website loading speeds. As a developer, make sure the animations are smooth and that the games don’t take forever to load. Don’t waste time trying to figure out how to activate VSync; I’ve done all that work for you.

But as an online slot and poker player, I’m not going to worry about VSync because, frankly, these are not action games. Frame rates are not critical because online slots and poker don’t move that quickly. VSync is really only relevant if you’re gaming in the 100+ FPS range. That’s because, while screen tearing doesn’t matter much at lower frame rates, it can become a problem when you start exceeding 60 FPS. As far as online slot and poker players, it’s more of an aesthetic thing than a performance issue. So chill out, spin those reels, and know that VSync isn’t going to help you win more money or make the dealer more attractive. Just play like you want – and win if you can!
