Can alt-tabbing affect my game progress or save data?

Will alt-tabbing out of a casino game such as Switch or PC poker or slots cause a save file to be corrupted or delete saved progress?

Modern casinos don’t typically lose save data from alt-tabbing. The devs are usually smart enough to check that. But it’s definitely possible that some of the older, cheaper casinos might have problems with it. There was at least one save glitch I could trigger by alt-tabbing out of the game in the middle of a save, but I couldn’t get it to delete all my save data. So I wouldn’t do it; just in case. Also, modern casinos autosave every few minutes, and keep multiple backups. You’ll probably find that any save data you’ve lost will eventually resurface. On top of this, if you’re nervous, you can try alt-tabbing in the game itself to something relatively unimportant first, so you know what happens. Just make sure you don’t alt-tab while the game is saving.

Fortunately, most contemporary slot machines nowadays can alt-tab without corrupting your save file. PC and Nintendo Switch games usually auto-save or prompt you to pause before exiting. But if you’re playing a retro game or something less optimized, there’s always a chance that alt-tabbing at a particularly bad moment could cause corruption. Just close out of the game normally to avoid any risk. Better safe than sorry!

Switch and PC casino games should work fine with alt-tabbing - most games pause their game when you minimize them. Some old or low quality games can be bugged though and can crash when you minimize. It's a good idea to save before you alt-tab just in case!
