Can you explain the difference between slots and table games?

Now, if you’re a newbie at the casino, I bet you’re asking yourself: What’s the difference between a slot machine and a game of blackjack or roulette? You can place bets and gamble and win on both, and they work in completely different ways – so what distinguishes them?

There are a few fundamental differences between playing slots and playing table-games. For starters, slots involve pulling levers and spinning reels; the results are randomly determined. But there's no planning involved and nothing the player can do to affect the outcome. There is no skill required. In contrast, table-games require decision-making. For example, in blackjack, the player chooses whether to hit, double down, split or stand, and in roulette, the player decides which combinations of numbers, columns or colors on which to bet. Even though chance remains the overriding factor, the player's actions influence the game. Finally, the payoffs for table-games are lower, but also more consistent than those for slot machines. While casinos are increasingly offering progressive jackpots on table-games, such as Ultimate Blackjack, this is still relatively uncommon. Table-games are also typically more social, involving interactions with dealers. Slots are played alone. Newcomers should begin by playing slots, to learn how to place bets, interpret pay tables and understand odds. Once they are comfortable, they can then move on to playing table-games.

You can play slot machines alone, while table games require interacting with a dealer or other players. Slot machines are about luck, while at tables your choices count. Slots are easy to understand, while table games are more complex. Either way, it’s all good!

Slots are simple. Insert coin, press button, look for a winning combination. It’s all about luck. Table games like blackjack and roulette require some skill and decision-making. Play against dealers, opponents. Slots are instant gratification. Table games are fun, but they demand more of you. Do what feels right. Enjoy!
